Energy efficiency

CCEI is providing industry sector with technical support industry sector in identifying energy efficiency measures and developing pre-feasibility studies, where, except identified measures, there are also included other environmentally sound technical solutions, recommendations, conclusions, etc., which can contribute towards better performance of the company.

Energy efficiency improvements refer to a reduction in the energy used for a given service (heating, lighting, production etc.). The reduction in the energy consumption is usually associated with technological changes, but it can also result from better management of energy resources (“non-technical factors”).

Manufacturing industry and district heating companies may have numerous possibilities of increasing energy efficiency, both in production processes and in supporting processes. Typical areas of improvement are cooling/refrigeration, heating, compressed air, insulation, heat recovery and lighting. Besides contributing to a cleaner industrial sector, implementation of projects involving new technology will contribute in making Macedonian industry more competitive and better prepared for future EU obligations.

The energy intensive industry consumes more than 30% of the final energy consumption in Macedonia (in 2005). Identification of potential environmentally sound energy investment projects in energy intensive industry and district heating companies is a central activity in the Project CCEI.

CCEI support the development of a pipeline of energy efficiency projects, by providing dedicated companies with technical assistance in preparing the energy efficiency projects for financing. Project teams consisting of local senior technical experts, young professionals and company representatives develop project documentation that will support future implementation of the projects. When applicable, these projects are presented to financing institutions.

Norsk Energi and a Panel of Local Senior Experts conduct quality assurance of project documentation, and all the project teams are facilitated and coordinated by CCC.
